SWG3 Website

In a city that has art and music pumping through its veins, SWG3 is one of Scotland’s leading independent venues – a place where creativity, community, and commerce collide. They had outgrown their website and were looking to attract a broad demographic, from corporate clients seeking event spaces to ravers buying tickets for the next big event.

GOLD Winner of the Scottish Design Awards Interface Design - Incorporating website, mobile and app design 2024!

Creating a site that speaks to such a diverse range of users is no easy task and our first step was to look at their current vision statement:

  • Where inspiration is infectious

  • Where experimentation thrives

  • Where memories are made

SWG3 needed an overall visual aesthetic that was worthy of their iconic cultural stature without compromising revenue. Using their vision statement as a basis for our solution, we included bold video headers that brought the space to life and showcased the multi-disciplinary nature of the venue. We used their arrow logo to provide a simple navigation tactic, guiding users throughout the site.

The key to the "What’s On" section, inspired by print-programme layouts and typography, was to ensure it was easy to navigate across devices while managing large traffic spikes.

To enhance accessibility, we implemented a mobile-first style hamburger menu available at any point through a sticky navigation system. A full-screen navigation menu expands and contracts each section on mobile devices to access subpages, creating a design that is both bold and functional.

With bookings happening directly on Ticketmaster, our sophisticated integration pulled data via the Ticketmaster API, allowing us to rapidly serve up-to-date information and complex filtering behind our visually striking, brand-led design. Instagram feeds were integrated directly into the homepage, giving a sense of the SWG3 buzz. Event pages were enhanced with YouTube and Spotify API integrations to bring event and artist content to life.

Everyone who comes to SWG3 knows it for a different reason, in a different way. It is a space for work, play, and everything in between; a place without limits. Our distinctive design created a unified, flexible platform that can adapt and grow alongside their ever-evolving brand identity and business goals.

Communicating this vision and master plan was a crucial element of our project. Our design and digital solution have positioned and enabled SWG3 to continue thriving as a hub of creativity and community, ensuring it remains a vital part of Scotland’s cultural landscape.

What started as artists’ studios in a derelict warehouse is now one of Europe’s most credible, loved, multi-discipline arts venues. Its next evolutionary step will see SWG3 expand into a major cultural destination and Scottish tourist attraction.
