A New Website for a Cultural Icon
In a city that has art and music pumping through its veins, SWG3 is one of Scotland’s leading independent venues – a place where creativity, community, and commerce collide. They had outgrown their website and were looking to attract a broad demographic, from corporate clients seeking event spaces to ravers buying tickets for the next big event.
SWG3
Where inspiration is infectious.
Where experimentation thrives.
Where memories are made.
These statements reflect SWG3s commitment to fostering a creative environment where art, music, and culture come together to create memorable experiences. They provided the perfect foundation for the experience and visual aesthetic that we would go on to create with their new website – which went on to win gold in the Interface Design category at the Scottish Design Awards 2024!
A bold and energetic video header brings the energy of SWG3 to life on the homepage – showcasing the multi-disciplinary nature of this cultural icon.
The look and feel of our what’s on section is inspired by print-programme layouts and typography – pulling data form the Ticketmaster API into the website CMS to allow us to rapidly serve live information, and apply tailored filtering. Bookings are then handed off to be completed via Ticketmaster.
Instagram feeds are integrated directly into the homepage to give a sense of the SWG3 buzz and event pages are enhanced with YouTube and Spotify API integrations to bring event and artist content to life.
We implemented a mobile-first style hamburger menu, available at any point via a sticky navigation design pattern. A full-screen, single-focus navigation menu expands and contracts each section on mobile devices and provides access to subpages – creating a design that is both bold but accessible and usable.
SWG3 is diverse. A space for work, play, and everything in between; a place without limits. Our distinctive design created a unified, flexible platform that can adapt and grow alongside their ever-evolving brand identity and business goals.
What started as artist's studios in a derelict warehouse is now one of Europe’s most credible, loved, multi-discipline arts venues. Their new website is part of its next evolutionary step that will see SWG3 expand into a major cultural destination and Scottish tourist attraction.
Communicating their vision and master plan were crucial aspects of the project. Our design and experience help to position and helps SWG3 to thrive as a hub of creativity and community – ensuring it remains a vital part of Scotland’s cultural landscape.
